The
SixShooter for the Ford
Providing the vital link for installing a Ford in
a Ford |
During the early part of 1968, Ford decided to enlarge
their 289 cid smallblock engine and, subsequently, stroked
it to almost 5 liters. The resulting 302 cubic inch motor
had a deck height of 8.2- inches (measured from deck surfaces
to crankshaft center line) with bore and stroke dimensions
of 4- and 3-inches respectively. This engine, which served
from 1968 to current day, has a configuration that is ideally
suited to the SixShooter induction system and is especially
appealing to all hot rodders with Ford chassis. Of course,
the SixShooter is also well suited to vintage Mustangs,
which were the subject of Ford’s Triple-Two-induction
system from 1965 to 1973, made available through Ford’s
dealer network.
Not only is the SixShooter renown for its impressive torque
and horsepower characteristics but also its simplicity:
unlike earlier three-deuce systems, which demanded frequent
adjusting, the SixShooter runs reliably without constant
attention. The SixShooter kit of parts for the small-block
Ford include: three Demon 250 cfm two-barrel carburetors
(with electric choke), intake manifold, air cleaner, and
the necessary throttle linkages with fuel inlet logs and
fittings.
